Engaging Learners for Better Results
Harvard Business Publishing (HBP) has a mission: to improve the practice of management by creating world-class leadership development solutions
. They create solutions that are used by managers at all levels of global organizations and governments. When it came to re-designing their on-demand learning portal, ManageMentor, they knew they needed something dynamic and fresh. Mad*Pow helped incorporate new learning styles and interactive mechanisms, to make the learning process engaging.
- Conducted research and customer feedback initiatives to drive a customer-first design and development effort
- Created an interface that balanced the modern, contemporary feel of the application with the established, respected Harvard brand
- Validated learner and admin-customer journeys through usability testing
HBP always puts the customer first – and that’s exactly where the redesign began. Mad*Pow directed research and customer feedback initiatives, which allowed customers to help define the focus for design and development efforts. We used this information to identify functions and interaction mechanisms that would resonate with learners, and generate consensus within the project team.
Modern, Trustworthy, Efficient
After defining key interaction mechanisms and information architecture paradigms, we explored several different design aesthetic directions for the ManageMentor application. Through the course of the design explorations, we balanced the need to present a contemporary application with a desire to include the credibility of the well-established Harvard brand. Tempering these diverse needs was an additional requirement to co-brand the site with customer brand attributes. Ultimately we tested the final design aesthetic with customers to ensure it succeeded in accomplishing our design goals.
Serving the Whole Organization
HBP recognized that while the learning experience was essential to the overall success of the application, the administrator experience was equally critical, as the administrators are often the product purchasers. With this in mind, Mad*Pow collaborated with HBP on the interaction design and information architecture of the administrator side of the portal to ensure an intuitive admin portal, which they then validated via usability testing.
"I am very proud of the work we have done and feel honored to have worked with such a great team from Mad*Pow. As we’ve been looking back and reflecting on the project, I have been recalling some of our key decisions along the way. Bringing in your team was among those critical decisions that got us to this point!” – Diane Belcher, Director, Product Management, Harvard Business Publishing
