Designing a Website to Promote a Conference
Each year through its Healthcare Experience Design Conference
(HxD), Mad*Pow facilitates a conversation on how human-centered design improves the quality of health service delivery and digital health interactions. HxD connects designers, technologists, product managers, researchers, and others integral to the conversation. In 2012, the Mad*Pow project team undertook a full redesign of the conference website to underscore the conference’s mission and bridge these conversations before, during, and—most important—after the event concluded.
- Incorporated responsive codebase
- Developed robust, personalized bios to showcase speakers’ passions and expertise, and customized design challenges to spotlight sponsors’ interests and commitment
- Integrated social networks to connect speakers and participants
- Revitalized brand to emphasize the conference’s refreshed program
Putting People Front and Center
Through its programming, speakers, and sponsors, HxD considers what people need to hear and want to know. By moving to a responsive website, Mad*Pow better served HxD attendees, delivering quick and easy access to the conference aspects that mattered most. By integrating social media profiles and creating a conference-specific social connection platform, HxD fostered relationships and intersections.
Refreshing and Energizing the Experience
Websites are a reflection of an organization’s, product’s, or event’s style and mission. The project team developed a more vibrant palette and visually powerful but uncluttered design that reflected the conference’s refreshed programming.
Comprehensive Support for Sponsors and Speakers
HxD believes every attendee is both a sponsor and a speaker. Accordingly, the conference includes opportunities and occasions for attendees to speak up and connect. The website redesign awarded special status and support to speakers with bios that included hand-selected inspirational resources and personal patient experiences. Sponsors, too, saw comprehensive support, including design challenges fashioned to showcase their mission and creativity.
